Description
This is a genuine Indonesian handwoven Savu tube sarong. This cloth was made from high-quality cotton yarns hand-dyed using natural dyes.
The production of this type of hand-woven textile is recognized as an ancient art, which is passed on from generation to generation, normally from mother to daughter. This type of hand weaving, normally done by women, is highly labour-intensive, extraordinarily complex and can take months to complete.
Part of the proceeds from the sale of this cloth will go to support grassroots projects by Connect Indonesia, The Charity, a volunteer-based organization currently managing several projects with artisan groups all over Indonesia. Information about the charity’s work can be found here. Information on the project can be found in http://www.connect-indonesia.org
